Apple recently announced a partnership with Blackmagic to bring what may be the first readily available professional stereo 180 camera. I love the freedom of picking and choosing the balance between price and performance, so have been making my own cameras for several years. My latest creation just so happens to also use Blackmagic cameras!

Here is the first prototype of the ROV 180VR cam. It is 2 Blackmagic Micro Studio G2 cameras, iZugar 3.25 fisheye lenses, in a 3D printed enclosure. The Cine records to USB-C devices, so I tested a T7 Shield and a WD_Black M.2 which both worked fine to record BRaw 8:1. The cameras can be accessed via ethernet, so I also need an USB-C to ethernet adapter, and a Raspberry Pi to control the cameras. There is no Bluetooth on the Micro Studio, so no iPhone control app. My plan is to write a custom iphone app to talk with the Raspberry Pi to synchronize starting recording, also to access the media. This camera does support sync via SDI, so that will be a future project finding a compact sync device.
