Mono Lake is a classic photography location along the Eastern Sierra. It is a saline lake with very high mineral content due to having no outlet, and declining water levels from local water diversion. But what makes it a favorite destination of photographers are the picturesque tufa towers formed by dissolved calcium released from the lake bottom.

A big part of successful photography is being there, and by there I mean where the light is good! This generally happens at sunrise and sunset. In the summer sunrise comes early, this shot was made around 5:30AM.
